Twitch has partnered with design agency Porto Rocha to refresh its visual identity. Twitch rebranded in 2019 with a new, gaming-friendly style. The new visual identity has moved away from analog to hyper-digital 3D.
Twitch's signature pixelated wordmark has gone from a flat design to a glossy, plastic-like 3D shape. Instead of the flat, gradient-like black shadows, it's now a thick plastic that appears to poke through the screen.
The 3D motif is also applied to various graphics. The illustrations depicting objects are expressed like plastic toys. The mysterious transparency and detailed depiction of reflected light in the areas where light hits them are so detailed that it almost feels like you can touch them. The gorgeous and dreamy background animations that seem to appear in the game reinforce the mysterious and bouncy feeling.
The Roobert font, named after synthesizer musician Robert Moog, has been streamlined in collaboration with Display Type Foundry. It doesn’t look like much, but the decorative elements have been reduced, making it feel like blocks when placed horizontally. Twitch’s signature purple color and speech bubble mascot “Glitch” are still used.
The interface is kept as minimal as possible to focus on the video and the streamer. Icons are minimally decorated or personalized, and the layout is unobtrusive with round pill components.
