Reddit Reddit has rebranded in collaboration with Pentagram. Reddit Reddit is a very large social news community opened in 2005 and operated based in San Francisco, USA, with 430 million monthly users and a corporate value of $10 billion (as of 2021).
Reddit covers a variety of topics, befitting its Dive into anything slogan. Articles consisting of short texts and images are displayed in the form of a feed. You can vote on posts so popular content appears at the top. Small topics are divided into subreddits and discussed.
In preparation for the upcoming IPO in 2024, we have changed to usher in a new era. We recreated Reddit's identity, the alien character Snoo, the linotype wordmark, and ff4500's orange-red.
Snoo, Reddit's iconic alien character, was created by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian during his college days. At first, they tried to name the site S'new by modifying the phrase 'What's New', but the website name became Reddit and S'new was used as the name of the mascot.
The new Snoo is reborn in 3D. It's vibrant and moving. Pentagram was reborn in 3D in hopes of becoming a legendary character like Mario or Hello Kitty. Snoo, which comes alive and vibrant, is released as open source, so you can download templates and create your own creations.
We created new typefaces Reddit Display and Reddit Sans. We changed from rounded fonts to sharp-edged fonts. A dialogue bubble was applied to the inner space of the text. The x-height was designed to be long for easy identification, and the font was also released as open source for use on GitHub and Google Fonts.
Because Reddit has so many topics, they rather refrain from using color. The icons are made up of only thin lines, like letters, and the key actions such as voting and comments are also grayed out. I thought that a community that deals with a variety of topics could be expressed in colorful colors, but I created an interesting expression while maintaining Reddit's unique identity.
However, as a Korean, I can't help but think of Kumho Tires when I see the red and white deformed characters.
