First Wearing of Liberation Uniform: 87 Independence Activists Who Have Finally Done Liberation Uniform

BINGGRAE and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs launched the <First Wearing Liberation Clothes> campaign. Since the campaign was released on August 1st to coincide with Liberation Day, it has received praise and interest from many people.

The last photo of 87 independence activists who died in prison, including Yu Gwan-sun, Ahn Jung-geun, Ahn Chang-ho, Kang Woo-gyu, and Shin Chae-ho, wearing prison uniforms, was restored using AI. A campaign video containing their touching stories and an online photo exhibition where you can see photos of all 87 people were held.

The expression on his face, worn out from his hardships in prison, changed to a soft one, as if he had been celebrating liberation together. The out-of-focus or overexposed photos changed to clear ones, and they changed to full-body images with a relaxed posture. The ink disappeared from the photo of Governor Cho Yong-ha, who had smeared his face with ink, saying, “As a Korean, I am ashamed to stand before a Japanese judge.”

We collaborated with designer Kim Hye-soon, who has studied hanbok for 40 years, to create hanbok in the colors of sapwood, indigo, and gardenia, which symbolize the spirit of independence activists. We visited 6 living patriots at home and abroad and delivered custom-made hanbok to them.

The name Gwangbok, which I am wearing for the first time, is ambiguous, using the words 'Gwangbok', meaning independence, and 'Gwangbok', meaning shining clothes. The font, which is a thread embroidery style that leaves letters on clothes, is unique. The details that shine in gold express the meaning excellently. It is also impressive that the web address where the online photo exhibition is held is in Korean.

Last year, Binggrae also created the 'world's latest graduation ceremony', awarding honorary diplomas to 94 student independence activists. In keeping with the 'Binggrae philosophy' of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, Binggrae established the Binggrae Public Welfare Foundation and continues social contribution activities such as scholarships for descendants of independence activists and national heroes, and book distribution projects.
