YouTube Music is gearing up for the holidays by rolling out its 2024 Recap feature to some users early. The feature is a personalized experience similar to Spotify’s year-end recap service, summarizing your listening history over the past year.
2024 Recap is available on the YouTube Music app for Android and iOS, and appears as a banner for some users. If you don’t see the banner, tap the app’s profile icon and select “Your Recap.” You can access the Recap playlist by searching on the web, but the full experience is only available on the mobile app.
This recap integrates podcast listening data from YouTube and YouTube Music for the first time. It visualizes listening time, number of songs played, most played songs and artists, and a user’s music taste in a unique form called “music characters.” For example, one user got “30% Love, 25% Dramatic.”
New features include integration with Google Photos, which lets you create personalized content that matches your photo albums with your favorite songs. Additionally, YouTube Music Premium users can listen to background music in Recap Stories.
The Recap sharing feature has also been enhanced. Users can share directly to social media, download the image to their device’s photo library, and save the 2024 Recap as a playlist for easy replay. A minimum of 10 hours of listening time is required to participate in the Recap.
YouTube Music 2024 Recap has been available to some users since early November, and the official release date has not yet been announced. However, based on past cases, the full distribution is expected to be between late November and early December.
