Channel A has rebranded in collaboration with Plus X. Channel A was founded in 2011 by the Dong-A Ilbo with the slogan, “A Canvas Containing Your Dreams,” and has been producing diverse content for 13 years. They said that with the recent emergence of new OTT platforms and intensifying media competition, there was a need to present and communicate a new vision.
This rebranding aims to transform from a broadcaster to a content platform. It has changed to focus on active viewers who actively select and consume content. It has set Play as its core value and has put forth the new slogan, ‘Enjoy your world, play the next world.’
Overall, it changed from a solid and heavy impression to a fun and lively impression. It changed from the previous A symbolizing an easel and CHANNEL symbolizing a canvas containing infinite possibilities to a form that emphasizes the A of a single stroke. It is the Euler trail method, a path that passes through the points of a graph only once. It starts at the bottom right, draws A, and extends to the upper right diagonal line. The same slope was applied to the ends of the C, E, and L of the wordmark.
The overall design has been brightened and made more lively. The wordmark has changed from capital letters to a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, and the announcer's neat voice has changed to a cheerful voice that bounces lightly. The deep blue has changed to a blue gradient with high saturation and bright brightness. The difference in stroke thickness and color has been used to express a sense of three-dimensional space in the symbol.
The recent Verizon rebranding is a rebranding that comes to mind. As the monopoly over information distribution is decreasing, efforts to occupy the viewers' time are visible. It seems that it is now important for media to be able to increase enjoyment beyond simply delivering information. In that sense, I think this Channel A rebranding is a fresh technique that expresses the meaning well without being out of sync.
