American electric vehicle company Rivian unveiled its new entry-level 5-seater electric SUV 'R2'. Rivian is a company founded by an engineer from MIT and invested by Amazon, and competes with Tesla's Model Y.
The design has become simple and rounded.
Instead of a concave structure, the impression has changed to an expanding shape. With fewer components and fewer seams, the entire exterior feels like one piece.
The entire exterior is rounded, with cute, round headlights seamlessly merging into one. Previously, we used a lot of contrast between small and large elements to make it look bigger, but this has changed to create a more comfortable feel.
The design reminds me of Nissan's cars, synonymous with cute SUVs.
The overall length is shorter than the Model Y and the wheelbase (length based on the wheels) is longer. Of course, there is a front trunk and all seats can be folded flat.
Using a cylindrical battery cell, you can drive up to 499km on a single charge. Equipped with a North American charging standard charging port, it is also compatible with Tesla Superchargers.
The price is $45,000 (about 59 million won). Delivery will begin in the first half of 2026.
One of the accessories, a “treehouse” tent, was equipped with a movie projector. When you open the hard shell on the car ceiling, a large tent unfolds. Opposite the entrance there is a screen that projects projections. Rivian is also preparing a variety of accessories. They also plan to sell a cargo box that can be connected to the back of a vehicle to create a kitchen anytime, anywhere.
Various designs are emerging to suit the new form factor of electric vehicles. Who will present a new standard in this world like iOS and Android? We look forward to the evolution of mobility experiences that will have a significant impact on our lives.
