Long bonnet and low roof, Jaguar Type 01 unveiled

Jaguar has unveiled the 'Type 01,' the first mass-production model of the new electric vehicle era. As a four-door electric GT, it translates the design direction of the Type 00 concept car, introduced in 2024, into a production vehicle. Designed and developed in the UK, it is built on the dedicated electric vehicle platform, JEA.

The body consists of a long bonnet, a low roof, and a receding interior. The distance from the center of the front wheel to the front door is approximately 171 TP3 T of the body length. Jaguar explains that this ratio was taken from the past E-Type. Even in the engine-free electric vehicle, the long front section is maintained, and 23-inch wheels are fitted to continue the brand's existing body proportions.

On the aluminum panel surrounding the rear wheels, five surfaces and three lines meet at a single point. This is a component that Jaguar calls the 'Impossible Panel.' Realizing this form required over 1,500 hours of development and a six-stage pressing process. The frameless doors are designed to meet the bodywork directly, without any decorative borders.

The 'Reaper' emblem, depicting a leaping Jaguar, is laser-engraved into the brass-like trim on the front fender. Inside, the center console extends from front to back, dividing the space for the four seats. Metallic elements running along the doors and colors derived from travertine stone connect the material expressions of the exterior and interior.

The Type 01 is a model that brings the surfaces and lines of the concept car to the mass production process. A dedicated platform was developed for the low body, and the design was realized through the molding of complex panels. Orders are scheduled to begin in early 2027, and the starting price in the UK has been announced at £130,000.
