Opinet Mobile App Renewal for the First Time in 10 Years

Korea National Oil Corporation's oil price information service, Opinet, has completely revamped its mobile app for the first time in 10 years. Launched in 2008, Opinet is a public platform providing price information for gas stations and charging stations nationwide, and has grown into a service used by 230 million people annually by the end of 2025. This revamp is not merely a simple screen reorganization, but a change that refines the service structure to enable users to find oil price information more quickly and easily.

The biggest change is the personalization feature. While the previous version focused on comparing gas station price information, the new Opinet recommends gas stations better suited to the user by comprehensively analyzing factors such as travel distance and vehicle fuel efficiency. When a user searches for a specific location, they can immediately check the lowest-priced gas stations based on that point, and the main screen is designed to allow users to view nearby lowest prices as well as national and regional average prices at a glance.

The direction of this revamp is also confirmed in the App Store version history. Version 4.0.1, released in February 2026, incorporated a complete overhaul of the UI and UX, the introduction of a gas station recommendation feature, enhanced gas station search capabilities, improved map quality, an expanded search radius, and the provision of map services for tax-exempt fuel and urea solution. UI and UX improvement updates continued in April and May as well.

From a design perspective, this change can be viewed as an example of reducing information density in public apps and rearranging the flow to center on the user's purpose. Opinet is a service that provides multi-layered data, including prices, location, value-added services, fuel price statistics, and information on gas stations engaging in illegal activities. For such a service, what is important is not displaying a large amount of information, but helping users make the decisions they need to make quickly.
