Google has launched a mobile app for its AI development tool, 'Google AI Studio'. While it was previously available primarily through web browsers, it can now also be used as an Android app.
Google AI Studio is a service that allows you to create app or feature prototypes using only text prompts. When a user enters a request such as “make me a workout tracker app,” the AI automatically generates code and screen structures. With this update, you can now input ideas and create apps directly on your smartphone.
At I/O 2026, Google also expanded the capabilities of AI Studio. You can now create native Android apps directly within the browser. The generated apps are built using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose and support Android features such as GPS, Bluetooth, and NFC. Users can test the apps immediately using an emulator within the browser.
This change is significant in that the competition for AI coding tools is expanding to the mobile sector. Recently, services such as Cursor, Replit, and Lovable have been rapidly spreading the trend of “conversational app creation.” Through AI Studio, Google is making moves to draw not only developers but also non-developers into the Android app creation ecosystem.
The user experience is also changing. While traditional app development required installing a development environment and learning a language, AI Studio allows users to input ideas and create prototypes directly on their smartphones. In fact, Google stated that over 250,000 Android apps were created within a week of the feature's launch.
