Chrome Gemini Korea Expansion

Google announced that it is expanding the Gemini feature for Chrome to the Asia-Pacific region, including Korea. Target countries include Korea, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.

In addition to summarizing long content and comparing information across multiple tabs, Gemini for Chrome allows you to handle tasks integrated with Google services within the browser, such as composing Gmail emails, scheduling events in Google Calendar, checking locations on Google Maps, and asking questions about YouTube videos.

In addition, image conversion capabilities and a feature that remembers previous conversation context to provide personalized responses were also introduced. Google emphasized that these features were designed with threats such as prompt injection in mind and ensure that users always remain in control.

A new feature called 'Skills' was also unveiled. This feature is designed to allow users to reuse frequently used AI tasks without having to input them repeatedly.

Skills operate in a Chrome environment equipped with Gemini. Users can save useful prompts from their conversation history and then execute them later within Gemini in Chrome by typing a slash (/) or pressing the plus (+) button. The prompts are executed based on the content of the webpage currently being viewed and other selected tabs.

Google presented the following examples as use cases.

  • Health & Wellbeing: Calculate Protein Content in Recipes
  • Shopping: Compare product specifications across multiple tabs
  • Productivity: Extracting Key Information from Long Documents

The 'Skill Library,' also unveiled, provides pre-built workflows. For example, users can immediately execute tasks such as product ingredient analysis or gift recommendations tailored to budget and preferences, or they can customize them by modifying them themselves.

In terms of security, the existing Chrome Gemini protection system is applied as is. Google explained that user verification is required for external tasks such as adding calendar events or sending emails, and that automated red team testing and automatic update features are also included.
