This character animation is a collaboration between Afterpay and buck. It conveys the brand's message with delicate direction and unique animation.
Work began with sketches and poses exploring the character's different facial expressions. The basic personality of the character was built by visually exploring all the possibilities of how a cat might laugh, walk, and make silent judgments. Then, once the rough sketches were approved and timing was finalized, the team began the cleanup process, which involved adding color, texture, and detailed finishes to make the character feel "alive.
At its center is a chubby feline character. More than just a mascot, the cat serves as an eye-catcher and messaging centerpiece. The animation phase focused on capturing key poses with cel animation precision and effectively expressing the cat's story and personality.
