GS25, operated by GS Retail, has launched a special commemorative lunchbox in collaboration with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and KB Kookmin Card to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation. The "80th Anniversary of Korea Liberation Day 7-Course Meal" features seven hearty side dishes, including crispy garlic bulgogi, meat cutlets, and donggeurangtang (spicy rice cakes). Priced at 5,500 won, it goes on sale on August 6th.
The lunchbox package is produced in two colors, blue and red, based on the Taegeuk pattern, and the front is engraved with GS Caltex's 'Independence Font', which embodies the handwriting of independence activists such as Kim Gu, Han Yong-un, Yun Dong-ju, and Yun Bong-gil, which is a quote from independence activist Yun Bong-gil, 'We are looking for a world of freedom.'
The free gift includes a keyboard keycap randomly labeled with one of the following: "Daehan," "Independence," "Manse," or "Taegeukgi." A limited edition of 200,000 pieces is available, and is compatible with select keyboard models. Immediately following its release, the online response was so positive that some even suggested the keycaps should be sold separately.
A portion of the proceeds from this lunchbox sale will be donated to the Korean Liberation Association to support descendants of independence activists affected by recent floods and wildfires. GS25 announced that it will mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation with this lunchbox, marking the end of three commemorative campaigns this year: March 1st Independence Movement Day, the anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, and the June 10th Independence Movement.
A GS25 official said, “We have created an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Liberation Day in everyday life and experience the ‘closest independence’ at a nearby convenience store.”
