The 'DOOM' series, which is a symbol of gamers, has descended upon the keyboard this time. This keycap series, released by keyboard specialty brand Drop in collaboration with 'DOOM: The Dark Ages', has been produced as a work of art rather than a simple fan product.
The keycaps are designed by New Zealand-based handmade keycap maker NZ Caps, and each one looks like it’s leaping out of a blood-soaked inventory screen. Inspired by the medieval fantasy aesthetic of the new game, ‘The Dark Ages,’ these keycaps transform your keyboard from a simple input tool into a demon-slaying altar.
The first product to note is the 'Slayer Helmet' 1u keycap. This keycap is a miniature reproduction of the legendary Doomguy helmet, with detailed details such as the front visor, armor texture, and battle scratches. It is manufactured according to the SA R1 profile and is compatible with most of the top keys of the keyboard, and it boasts a dramatic presence when placed on the ESC key. The unique heaviness of the resin is transmitted to the fingertips when typing, and it has been completed as a structure that can actually be used, not a simple decoration.
Next up are the 'Flail and Shield' 2.25u keycaps. Made specifically for the Enter key, they're themed around the iconic medieval weapon, the mace and shield, and feel like miniature props from DOOM sitting on your keyboard. The mace is posed in a dynamic way, as if captured in a spinning moment, while the shield is rendered like a rough-textured ancient artifact. The sculptural tension and the depth of the shadows cast under the sunlight will keep your eyes glued to your keyboard all day long.
Both products are handcrafted from resin, giving them a delicate surface texture and a subtle sparkle that adds presence depending on the light. Anyone can easily install them on any MX switch-compatible keyboard, and they are priced at $59 each.
