Launch of Meta Standalone AI App

Meta launched a new artificial intelligence app, Meta AI, on April 29, 2025. This app provides an AI assistant that remembers the user's preferences and context and operates in a personalized manner. Meta AI, which was previously only available through Messenger or Instagram, is now available as a standalone app and is linked to Ray-Ban Meta glasses and the web platform, allowing conversations to continue anytime, anywhere.

Meta AI operates based on Meta's latest language model Llama 4. Beyond simple question-answering, it remembers the user's information and provides more sophisticated answers based on it. For example, it can remember that the user likes to travel or is interested in learning foreign languages and recommend related content or continue the conversation. In addition, linking Facebook and Instagram accounts allows for even more precise personalization.

The app is centered around voice-based conversational capabilities. In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, a ‘Full-Duplex’ voice demo is also available, allowing you to experience natural, uninterrupted human-like speech. This feature is still experimental and does not support web searches or real-time information access, but it does provide a glimpse into the future of AI interfaces.

The Meta AI app goes beyond a simple AI assistant and also enhances the social element. Through the 'Discover' feed, you can see how others are using AI and share or edit prompts yourself. Posts are not automatically shared without the user's consent, and complete control is guaranteed.

If you are a Ray-Ban Meta glasses user, you can continue to manage your glasses through the Devices tab in the app. The Meta View app is integrated with the Meta AI app, and supports continuing conversations on the mobile app and the web. However, the ability to continue conversations started on the app or web with your glasses is not currently available.
