Freelight Warrunner, a mechanical keyboard for writers

Astrohouse, a Michigan-based company, has unveiled a new product at CES 2025 called the Freewrite Wordrunner. Astrohouse, a company that makes hardware that helps writers avoid distractions and focus on their writing, is working on the same goal with this product.

Wordrunner reflects the popularity of mechanical keyboards while also adding specialized features for writers. It basically follows the structure of a mechanical keyboard and has built-in productivity tools called 'Word-o-meter' and 'Sprint Timer'. Word-o-meter shows the number of words written in real time, and Sprint Timer helps you write intensively for a certain period of time.

“Writers are the most keyboard-using people of all time, and there hasn’t been a dedicated tool for them,” said Astrohouse CEO Adam Reeve. “Just as gamers need tools with custom features, writers need keyboards that are optimized for their work.” Reeve emphasized that Wordrunner is intended to be more than just an input tool; it’s meant to be a true writing companion for writers.

Wordrunner is made of aluminum and the keyboard is designed with a floating design. It includes a red control knob for added convenience. The product is scheduled to be launched through Kickstarter in February 2025 and is scheduled to be released later that year.

Astrohouse provides writers with immersion in the creative process beyond just technical support through Wordrunner. This clearly demonstrates the company’s philosophy of providing writers with optimized tools with a differentiated approach from existing keyboards.
