Google has refreshed the UI of Google Calendar Web. The changes are mainly visual, and finally support Dark Mode. It started rolling out this week and is available to all Gmail and Google Workspace users. You can turn it on and off in the settings in the top right corner.
The new UI is based on Google’s new design system Material 3. Buttons, dialogs, and sidebars have been significantly redesigned, and new fonts and icons have been used. However, it’s not always easy to find where the new icons have been applied. The overall usability remains the same. The background color is blue-gray except for the area that displays the calendar. Popover components such as schedule details and settings also use a light gray background color.
The calendar block is rounder than before. The button in the area that controls the calendar view is almost pill-like in shape. Google Tasks has also adopted the same dark mode. Google Keep, Maps, etc., which can be accessed from the right sidebar, do not yet support dark mode. Additional add-ons that users use may also not support dark mode.
