What are the limits of Doom? Doom is a classic game that challenged creators to see if anything with a display could be run. It even ran on a pregnancy test.
Researchers at Google and Tel Aviv University have remade Doom with AI. The researchers created a game engine called GameNGen, a neural model-based game engine that allows for complex game environments and real-time interactions without using a traditional game engine. It runs the classic Doom at over 20 frames per second with similar quality to the original. It uses Stable Diffusion v1.4, an open-source generative AI, to simulate complex states such as health, ammo, attacks, and interactions.
