Logitech has unveiled the MR Stylus MX Ink. This is a pen for MR, a mixture of AR and VR, and is the first accessory for Meta's AR device quest. The difficulty of operation without physical resistance will increase, but I wonder what the actual usability will be like. Pointing and controlling a flat surface with a finger or a pen is easy because it is an action we often perform in daily life, but controlling it with the tip of a pen in a multidimensional space seems to be highly difficult.
You can equip meta quests and create creations between 2D and 3D in virtual space. Can be used simultaneously with existing controllers. Like the MR stylus previously released by Logitech, you can write notes on a whiteboard or draw on a canvas with an oil painting texture. In a 3D environment, you can zoom in and out from multiple non-fixed perspectives to design buildings or explore human models.
It consists of a replaceable pen nib, three front buttons, and a meta button at the top, allowing you to set the pressure in detail. You can work with 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF, meaning up, down, left, right, front and back) and also receive tactile feedback.
It can be used for 7 hours in a typical working environment and can be charged by plugging it into a separate charging pin called MX Inkwell through a USB-C port. It's shaped like a fountain pen.
It will also be compatible with Meta Quest 3, Quest 2, and future models, and is compatible with Quest apps such as Open Brush, Adobe Substance Modeler, Gravity Sketch, and Painting VR. It is priced at $130, similar to the Apple Pencil Pro, and is scheduled to be released at the Meta Connect conference in late September.
