Google called the ‘Gemini Era’. In this presentation, ‘AI’ was mentioned over 120 times. The most noticeable change is search. The search results page will change to a page created by generative AI. Results vary depending on the search term and display summaries of reviews, discussions from social media such as Reddit, and a list of AI-generated suggestions.
AI search resultsis displayed differently depending on the search term. General information shows three tabs: Original, Simpler, and Break it down. Ask Original about the impact of temperature on baking bread and we'll show you the full text. The Simpler tab shows a summary consisting of short paragraphs. Break it down provides more detailed explanations of specific concepts, such as temperature and baking.
If you ask Gemini for a week's menu for college students, they will organize it on a web page showing what foods to eat each day. You can also search further for a specific diet and change it to the type that's right for you. Complex contextual information, such as travel plans, is well organized and displayed on a single web page. A travel guide app is created in an instant.
There will be a separate ‘Web’ tab that displays only traditional text-based search results. Depending on the search results, it will be hidden in the 'More' menu.
Gemini Liveis similar to the function recently released by Open AI. It is said that there are no plans to release it under the name Project Astra until this year. It adapts to the user's voice patterns in real time and interprets photos and videos taken with the smartphone. By watching the demo video, you can perform complex searches, such as finding out which neighborhood the user is in or finding the name of a part of a broken bicycle.
Ask PhotosYou can search your Google Photos collection with natural language queries. Instead of specific words like “Eiffel Tower,” you can search for complex sentences like “the best photo of any place I’ve ever been.” It can also be useful in real life. For example, you can ask what themes your child's last four birthday parties have been. Google Photos provides a summary of photos and videos related to mermaid, princess, and unicorn themes.
Google, which dominates the world through search, is famous for its main screen rarely changing. Google search, which was called the king of concise design because it consisted mainly of simple text, is huge. I can feel the times changing.
The Googling pattern of searching for information one after another while entering appropriate words has now changed to a pattern of asking chatbots. As AI becomes able to understand the complex context hidden behind text, the trend is likely to change from word-based search to sentence-based search.
Collecting and displaying information feels as if an information platform company has created an information product PB. I think it will have a big impact on IT, or information technology. I wonder what will happen to search optimization in the future.
