Samsung Electronics held ‘Galaxy Unpack 2024’ at the SAP Center in San Jose, USA. The ‘Galaxy S24 series’ was unveiled with the subtitle ‘Galaxy AI is here’. The ‘Galaxy Ring’, a smart device for healthcare, was also surprisingly unveiled.
First, we introduced a function that breaks down language barriers using Galaxy AI. We provide a real-time two-way interpretation service even when calling in different languages. Even when sending and receiving text messages, you can use the ‘Samsung Keyboard’ for real-time translation. Both functions are ‘on-device AI’ and can be used with just a smartphone without going through a server. We offer 13 languages, including Korean.
We also unveiled the ‘Circle to Search’ function created in collaboration with Google. If you see an image or word you are curious about on any smartphone screen, just circle it and various information will be displayed. You can then ask a follow-up question using the search bar.
The ‘Galaxy Ring’, which was revealed as a surprise at the end of the event, is a smart ring for health care. It was announced that the user's health will be monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and AI will provide real-time guidance. He emphasized that always measuring is important in innovating health, and announced that he designed a product that can be conveniently used at any time in daily life. It was announced that it is scheduled to be released within this year.
Interest in AI is still hot. After the tremendous success of Open AI, many companies are taking on the challenge of providing new experiences using AI. Many new new products are emerging that run on the device itself without communicating with a server, and Samsung has been quick to apply the technology.
However, since many functions already provided by companies providing specialized services in each area are included, it seems that we will only be able to judge how useful it will be until it is released.
