Meta Quest 3 VR: Are there any new experiences besides better than before?

Meta has officially announced the Quest 3 VR headset. It offers 128GB of storage, with additional storage options coming in the fall. It costs $499.99. It is said to offer twice the graphics performance in a slimmer form than the Quest 2. At launch, the Quest 2 128GB is said to be $299.99 and the 256GB is $349.99. They plan to share more information at Meta Connect on September 27th.

VR devices are inconvenient to use because the HMD (Head Mounted Display) worn on the face is heavy and thick, but the thickness is reduced to 40%, making it easier to wear. The resolution of the VR is low, but the movement of the field of vision is sensitive, making it dizzy when using it.

The hand controller with haptic touch sensor is designed like a gaming controller split in two. Nintendo's controller seems to be in a form that can be held more comfortably with both hands. It seems to be easy to operate with your thumb and forefinger. The overall product design is reminiscent of the exterior of Sony's PlayStation 5.

📕 Editor's Notes

As much as the company name was changed, Meta is actively challenging AR/VR. However, the specifications of the device itself seem to be getting better, but in the end, it seems that killer content is desperately needed to become the main one. I'm worried that if I make a mistake, I might lose it to Apple like the wireless earphone market.

It's not often that I see myself using a VR device, but it's a form I'm not used to yet. It's like seeing someone riding a Segway for the first time. I am not moving forward, but moving forward felt dangerous and awkward. I wonder how VR/AR devices will evolve in the future.
