Toss unveiled the design conference SIMPLICITY23. 23 designers have prepared various sessions to share their concerns that they would have if they were designers.
When we think of conferences, we usually think of recorded videos, but we created a different type of experience. Audio-centric information, such as radio or video, is perceived linearly. You can immerse yourself in it without any action, but it has the downside of having to watch it from beginning to end. It's not easy to search when there's something you want to hear again.
This time, Toss is designed around a comfortable listening experience, just like a podcast. Apparently, there are many designers who listen during the day, so I focused on the experience of listening while doing other things.
However, it is difficult to deliver information in various contexts with this form alone, and it is disappointing to see the pleasure of seeing it, so we solved it with typography motion and various interactions. Paragraphs are emphasized with appropriate marks suitable for the context of the text, and image materials that are useful for reference appear on the right.
Text information is similar to Apple Music's lyrics view. I solved it so that I could focus on what I was hearing right now by emphasizing it. We also developed an experience highlighting important elements in text services like Medium. The two actions of clicking and dragging have been reduced to one action of pressing 'Sympathize'. You can also ask questions right away when you have a question.
My tiny Macbook went on to become an airplane. The website was heavy using Chrome's performance to its extreme. Unfortunately, I thought that there might have been a performance optimization issue when I opened it beyond the promised time.
It's a small regret, but I wondered if there was another place in Korea that focused on design and worked hard to spread it widely. I'm more rooting for the move of Toss, which proved that a pleasant experience can make an impact. It would have never been easy to prepare as much as the results were wonderful, but it is wonderful to see the conference being prepared every two years. I hope you will continue to create more enjoyable design stories in the future!
