Google has revamped the icons for default Pixel apps to coincide with the launch of the Pixel 11. The revamped icons cover everyday system apps such as Pixel Camera, Calculator, Clock, Recorder, and Weather. The new icons share common elements of a white circular background, bright colors, and simple internal graphics, aligning with the Material 3 Expressive design language that Google applies across Android. Some icons were initially introduced on the Pixel 11 and are being rolled out to existing Pixel devices via app updates.

Pixel Camera maintains the form of a traditional DSLR camera while refining body proportions and applying a blue gradient symbolizing the Pixel. Weather replaces the blue sky background with white and adds warm colors and three-dimensional shading to the sun and clouds. Recorder reverses the relationship between the red background and white waveforms used since the 2019 Pixel 4, placing simplified red waveforms on a white background. Calculator removes the rectangular background and places arithmetic symbols inside bright and dark green circles. Clock also departs from the conventional outline of a watch, adopting the flexible and exaggerated form first introduced in Wear OS.

This change integrates backgrounds, colors, and details into a single system while preserving the forms that symbolize each app's function. Pixel app icons, which were created in different ways over several generations, now create a more consistent impression when placed on the same home screen. On the other hand, the repetition of white circular backgrounds reduces the differences between icons and can weaken the outlines against bright backgrounds. Balancing visual consistency with the identifiability of individual apps appears to be the key challenge of this icon system.
