Tempo, founded by Stripe and Paradigm, has unveiled a new brand identity. Tempo is a blockchain for real-world payments that aims to be a global payment infrastructure optimized specifically for stablecoin transactions. Based on speed, efficiency, and scalability, it seeks to set a new standard in the global payment environment.
This brand identity was developed by Studio Dumbar/DEPT® in close collaboration with Paradigm's Veit Moeller and Matt Huang. The brand strategy focused on simultaneously conveying humility as a technology provider and confidence in the potential of the future payments market. Tempo emphasizes its role as a foundation connecting diverse stakeholders—including developers, entrepreneurs, global brands, banks, and governments—to leverage the benefits of technology.
The design was developed around Tempo's speed and advanced technology. The wordmark expresses forward movement and a sense of stability, and an independent 'T' symbol was also designed for social avatars and favicons. A custom Tempo typeface and dedicated software were utilized in the graphic system. This software was designed to allow character widths to be extended from standard forms to extremely wide forms.
The expanding wordmark serves as a visual metaphor for cross-border payment flows. It expresses the movement of value across space and time, complex payment routes, and the connectivity of various networks through dynamic typography. The addition of a motion system and sonic identity further enhances the brand's sense of speed and energy.
The overall identity is based on concise typography and a restrained color palette. The brand system includes typefaces, colors, image styles, a toolkit, guidelines, a brand movie, and a website, which was created in collaboration with Hello Monday/DEPT®.
