Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), one of the world's largest music publishing companies, has unveiled a new brand identity. This rebranding was conducted to further emphasize the cultural value of songs and composers, and includes the introduction of a new logo, visual system, and brand positioning.
The new logo offers a modern reinterpretation of Universal's existing symbol, the globe. The four frame shapes represent the global community of composers, while the central circular space is designed to evoke a camera frame. This conveys the message of shining a light on the composers and creators at the heart of the music industry.
The overall brand system was developed by the global creative agency GrandArmy. An integrated brand framework was established that includes not only the logo but also the color system, motion, and sound identity, and it was designed to enable UMPG organizations worldwide to deliver a consistent message.
UMPG has presented a new brand slogan: “We get songs heard. We get songwriters paid. Wherever songs go, We Are A World Ahead.” This signifies the company’s commitment to making the protection of composers’ rights and the promotion of their value within the music industry its core role.
Along with this rebranding, UMPG is also launching 'Publishing 101,' a short-form content series introducing the music publishing industry. We plan to sequentially release content explaining the key roles of music publishing to the public, such as A&R, sync licensing, and royalty management.
