Notion has unveiled a new developer platform. This move aims to expand Notion, which was previously centered on documentation and collaboration, into an execution environment driven by AI agents and automation.
This announcement was unveiled at the 'Make with Notion' event. Notion has added new features such as Workers, the External Agents API, Database Sync, and the CLI. It is evident that the company is moving beyond its existing API-centric structure to establish Notion itself as the center of the AI workflow.
The biggest change is Workers. Workers is a serverless environment that allows you to execute code directly within Notion. You can run automation functions inside Notion without the need for separate servers or infrastructure. You can detect database changes, call external APIs, and handle tasks such as generating AI responses or automatically writing documents.
Notion has also released an External Agents API to connect external AI agents. This structure allows AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex to connect directly to Notion workspaces. These AI agents operate beyond simply generating text; they modify documents, update project status, and access databases.
Notion described this platform with the phrase “Any data, any tool, any agent.” This means they intend to create an environment where any data, any tool, and any AI agent can be connected within Notion.
Recently, in the AI industry, competition for operational environments where AI operates within actual work is rapidly growing alongside competition for model performance. Notion is moving beyond document apps to dominate the AI collaboration interface itself.
