Neural Expressive, Google's new design language

Google has applied a new design language called 'Neural Expressive' to Gemini apps. This change was unveiled at Google I/O 2026.

Neural Expressive is a design update that changes Gemini's interface and how you interact with it. Google has implemented new animations, a dynamic responsive UI, enhanced motion effects, haptic feedback, and more.

The input window design has also been changed. A larger pill-shaped UI has been applied, and the Gemini Live feature has been integrated into the main interface.

The response method has also changed. Gemini is shifting to a structure that utilizes not only text but also images, interactive elements, and visual card formats.

Google has recently been expanding 'Material 3 Expressive' on Android as well. Neural Expressive also appears to be a design change moving within the same trend.
