Galaxy X Gemini ordering food with AI

Google released a feature update for Gemini on Android on February 25. The key feature is an automation function where Gemini handles multi-step tasks, such as hailing a ride and food delivery. The flow of smartphone usage is expected to change, with users entrusting their tasks to Gemini and monitoring the progress.

Google explained that this feature is in the beta phase. Initially, it supports only select apps in the food delivery, grocery, and ride-sharing categories. Compatible devices are also limited. It will first be available on the Pixel 10 series and Samsung Galaxy S26 series via the Gemini app. The launch regions will also begin with the United States and South Korea.

Safety measures have also been introduced. Automation begins only upon an explicit command from the device owner. Users can monitor the process in real-time while it is running. If a problem arises, the operation can be stopped. Google stated that the automation takes place in a secure virtual window within the phone. They explained that this window is designed to access only restricted apps and prevent access to the device's entire data.

Other features were also enhanced on the same day. The in-call fraud detection feature is being extended to the Galaxy S26 series. It utilizes the Gemini on-device model to provide an immediate alert when suspicious signs are detected. Text message fraud detection is also being expanded to include more regions and devices.

Circle to Search is also changing. It is being updated to go beyond searching for a single object on the screen and recognize multiple visible elements simultaneously. A scenario where information is found by identifying clothing and accessories at the same time in an outfit photo was presented as a representative example.

The industry interprets this update as a signal that smartphones are shifting from an operating system-centric model to one focused on intelligent task execution. Google plans to gradually expand supported apps and devices, starting with a limited scope. The extent to which Gemini automation can naturally handle daily tasks is expected to become the next standard of competition in the Android ecosystem.
