Moebe x Penguin Books, 90th Anniversary Bookstand

A book stand, a collaboration between Danish design studio MOEBE and publisher Penguin Books, has been unveiled. Created to commemorate Penguin Books' 90th anniversary, the product is designed as an object that celebrates the medium of books and the value of reading in everyday life.

The Penguin x Moebe Book Stand is designed to reduce design to its bare minimum, focusing attention on the book itself. Decorative elements are eliminated, and the form is achieved with simple metal surfaces and restrained angles. As a result, the book becomes the protagonist, not just an object.

The units are flexible in their use. They can be used to temporarily prop up an open book, or they can be used to display a single book. When used together, they can even function as bookends. They are designed to fit seamlessly into a variety of spaces, such as a bedside table, a bookshelf in a study, or a kitchen countertop.

The material used is powder-coated steel and stainless steel. The colors are Sand Black Cream Stainless Steel and Orange, a color symbolic of the penguin. Its lightweight yet structurally sound form allows for stable support based solely on the weight of the book.

This collaboration stems from the shared values of both brands. Penguin Books has been spreading ideas and culture through books since 1935, while Moebe has pursued honest designs that can be used for a long time in everyday life. The two companies developed this product based on a shared desire to remake objects made for books into books again.

The Penguin x Moebe Book Stand isn't just a piece of stationery or furniture; it's a tool that respects the rhythm of reading. It reminds you of pages without having to fold the bookcase, encouraging you to return to the flow of reading. Priced at €57, it's positioned as a small device that invites books back into your daily life.
