Naver has officially launched "Indoor AR Navigation," which provides accurate navigation even in indoor spaces where GPS signals are unavailable. This service utilizes camera-based location recognition technology to display the user's direction of travel in augmented reality, helping users navigate complex indoor spaces without getting lost.
Users simply point their smartphone camera at their surroundings, and the path they're moving is intuitively displayed in the real world. To achieve this, Naver leveraged Naver Labs' spatial intelligence technology. Combining digital twin technology, which precisely constructs 3D spatial information, with AI vision positioning technology, it accurately identifies the user's location and direction in real time. This allows the camera to seamlessly augment various information, such as restaurants, cafes, and stores, on the screen, providing an immersive navigation experience that seamlessly connects reality and the digital world.
This service will be available initially at COEX. Naver has been conducting pilot operations at Naver 1784 and the Green Factory building since August, ensuring technological stability. Going forward, the service will gradually expand to include high-traffic commercial complexes. Furthermore, location information for indoor amenities such as elevators, restrooms, and information desks has been updated to enhance user convenience, in addition to restaurants and cafes.
Naver Maps also unveiled a new 3D navigation feature, "Flying View 3D." This feature realistically recreates major landmarks, allowing users to explore them vividly in 3D space, as if flying a drone. It's currently available in 10 locations, including Cheomseongdae in Gyeongju, COEX in Seoul, Songdo Central Park in Incheon, Jeonju Hanok Village, and BEXCO in Busan, with plans to expand to other major attractions nationwide in the future.
