The official integration of ChatGPT into KakaoTalk is heralding a major shift in the domestic messaging landscape. Kakao announced on the 28th the launch of "ChatGPT for Kakao" in collaboration with OpenAI. Users can access the service immediately by clicking the ChatGPT button at the top of the KakaoTalk chat tab, without having to log in. Existing OpenAI accounts can also be linked, and free users will be subject to certain usage limits.
This service integrates with Kakao's AI agent platform, "Kakao Tools," allowing users to utilize various features, such as gifting via Kakao Map and Melon Talk, even in everyday conversations. For example, saying "Tell me about a good croffle near Hapjeong Station" will instantly provide location information via Kakao Map. Through this, Kakao aims to go beyond simple AI conversational functions and enhance the integrated service experience across the entire Kakao ecosystem.
‘"ChatGPT for Kakao" utilizes OpenAI's latest language model, GPT-5, and supports all of ChatGPT's core features, including image upload and creation. ChatGPT can be used to ask questions during conversations or share answers directly in the chatroom. Kakao respects users' data sovereignty, allowing them to choose whether to save conversations and incorporate them into learning. Furthermore, ChatGPT for Kakao is restricted to users aged 14 and older.
The useful Kakao AI Agent Platform performance leader stated, "We will make AI safe and easy for anyone to use within KakaoTalk, making it a part of everyday life rather than a technology." Starting with this collaboration, Kakao plans to expand its AI agent ecosystem by integrating various internal services, such as finance, mobility, and entertainment, with external third-party APIs.
To celebrate the launch, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be receiving a refund of one month's subscription fee after paying for the third month. The event will run on a first-come, first-served basis until the end of December.
