Barcelona City Hall has unveiled a new visual identity. Overseen by design studio Principi, the project embraces the motto "City and Coat of Arms, in That Order," placing the city itself at the heart of the brand.
The new identity will be integrated across all City Hall communication channels, establishing a flexible yet clearly recognizable visual language. The core goal was to visually embody a communication structure that centers the city and its citizens. The city stated that this change will help reduce the distance between the city and its citizens as a public institution and bring the city closer to its citizens.
The project was selected from a competition hosted jointly by Barcelona City Hall and the Spanish Design Association ADG-FAD, with Principi winning after competing with Mario Eskenazi and Extra Estudio.
Typography was by Statement Typefaces, and the motion identity was designed by designer Gerard Mallandrich.
The full project will be unveiled soon. This rebranding, through visual language, simultaneously reveals Barcelona's public character and modernity, setting a new standard for urban identity.
