This is a brand design collaboration between Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland's oldest contemporary art institution, and Porto Rocha. Kunsthalle Basel has been a pioneer in introducing unknown artists, pioneering new media, and opening its doors to the public when contemporary art museums remained confined to the upper echelons. Without a permanent collection, Kunsthalle has always prioritized the "now" and the "next," providing an early stage for artists who shaped their eras, from Marcel Duchamp to Anne Imhoff.
The core of the new visual identity is a monogram combining the letters K and B. It symbolizes both stability and change, and flexibly adapts to the situation. This geometric structure is also reflected in the rhythm and transitions of the motion design, creating a dynamic visual experience in the digital environment.
The website is designed with a clear structure and an expandable UI system to facilitate intuitive navigation of programs and archives. Full-screen images and editorial layouts create an immersive experience, while unexpected interactive elements enhance the experience.
Typography is a key pillar of the brand's identity. The custom serif font "KB Rhymes" and the sans-serif "Suisse International" were combined to create a blend of sophistication and friendliness. A neutral palette was adopted for the artwork, while bold hues were applied to typography-driven graphics. A secondary palette was used to add layered expressiveness.
