Logitech has unveiled the Signature Slim Solar Plus K980, a wireless keyboard that operates entirely on solar energy, eliminating cables. This keyboard features a built-in solar panel on top and doesn't even have a USB charging port.
Logitech claims its proprietary "LightCharge" technology allows the keyboard to operate with as little as 200 lux of ambient light. Natural light, as well as artificial light sources like fluorescent and LEDs, can power the keyboard. On a full charge, the keyboard can operate in the dark for up to four months, and the built-in battery has a lifespan of approximately 10 years, the company claims.
The product features a full-size layout with a numeric keypad, function keys, and dedicated media keys. It can connect to up to three devices simultaneously via Bluetooth and features dual legend keycaps that support both Windows and Mac operating systems. A Mac-specific version is also available separately.
Additionally, it features an "AI Launch Key" that launches the operating system's default AI assistant. Copilot is set by default on Windows, and Gemini on Chrome OS, but users can change this. Logi Options+ software also allows for customization of function keys and assignment of smart actions. For example, you can set automated commands to open multiple apps simultaneously for a specific key.
The keyboard measures 430.8mm wide, 142.9mm deep, and 20.2mm thick, and weighs 700g. The body is made of recycled plastic and is currently available in graphite on the Logitech official website and at major online retailers. It's priced at $99.99.
