LG D-301, the legendary fan revived after 65 years

The Goldstar D-301 model, Korea's first domestically produced fan, has been revived in a modern way after 65 years. LG Electronics has introduced a re-creation of the fan under the name of 'LG D-301', taking over the historical product of its predecessor Goldstar. It is a wireless mini fan that harmoniously combines modern technology and retro sensibility, and it captures the spirit of the original D-301.

The D-301, released by Goldstar in 1960, is considered a symbolic product of the Korean home appliance industry. At the time, it was released with the advertising slogan, “Goldstar fan that blows cool wind at a low price,” and gained explosive popularity, but production was halted due to power consumption issues due to government policy. It was a meaningful first step in Korean industrial history and a product that left a short but strong memory.

The reissued model introduced by LG Electronics this time is a compact size that is about 1/4 the size of the original, making it suitable for placing on a desk or side table. The side of the product is engraved with the 1960s Gold Star logo, which fully conveys the emotion of the time. Not only the appearance, but also the operation method has adopted a classic dial method, allowing easy adjustment of the wind speed in three stages: weak, medium, and strong, and it also has a rotation function.

The battery can be charged via the USB-C port, and it can be used completely wirelessly, increasing portability and practicality. The package is engraved with the phrase, “Rediscover the Original, Redesigned for Today,” which shows the will to reinterpret rather than simply copy.

The LG D-301 fan is currently a limited edition event product and there is no official release date yet. However, it is already receiving a hot response from those interested in retro props or design home appliances, and requests for its release are continuing.
