As the new government officially returns to the Blue House, it has decided to revert the 'business emblem' that has served as the symbol of the Office of the President to the design of the past Blue House era. The use of the Yongsan Office of the President logo produced during the previous administration will be discontinued, and the direction of the symbol system will be newly established.
The Office of the President announced in a press release on the 13th, “Since the current Office of the President is still located in Yongsan, the phrase ‘Office of the President’ will be used instead of ‘Cheong Wa Dae’ for the time being, but once the return is complete, we plan to completely switch back to the original ‘Cheong Wa Dae’ emblem.”
The business emblem is a CI (official mark) that symbolically conveys the identity of the administrative organization, and is used on various channels such as business cards, envelopes, and homepages. This measure symbolically shows that the spatial symbol of the Office of the President is moving back to the Blue House, as it replaces the existing business emblem that symbolized the Yongsan building.
This change in emblem also took into consideration the budget-saving effect. The Yoon Seok-yeol government spent about 100 million won to produce the Yongsan business emblem combining the Rose of Sharon and the Phoenix. However, the opposition party at the time criticized it as a hasty move, saying it reminded them of the bamboo and sword that symbolize the prosecution.
The Office of the President stated, “The new business emblem will be applied first to the new homepage and civil servant business cards, and will be used only in areas where it is absolutely necessary to prevent unnecessary waste of budget.” They added, “We have decided to maintain the existing business emblem and printed materials as they are and not replace or discard them.”
