Meta Launches Short-Form Video App 'Edits'

Meta has launched a new video editing app for short-form content creators, Edits, globally. Edits is a video production tool that can be used on various platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, and was developed to increase the efficiency and intuitiveness of creation. It features the ability to record ideas, manage projects, shoot videos, and edit videos all within the app.

Edits features advanced editing features like a frame-synced timeline, cutouts, and AI animation effects, and lets you finish your videos in high quality without a watermark. The Reels Ideas feed, which provides popular audio and content performance metrics, lets users see what content is resonating.

It is also noteworthy that the team collaborated with various creators from the early stages of development. Meta has refined its features based on tests and feedback from them, and future updates will also include keyframe-based precise timing adjustment, mood changes through AI, collaboration features, various fonts and text animations, and voice effects.

This launch is interpreted as a strategy to target TikTok's position, taking a similar position to China's ByteDance's video editing app 'CapCut'. TikTok's parent company ByteDance is being asked to sell its business in the US, and President Donald Trump has warned that if it fails to do so, TikTok's use could be banned from mid-June. Accordingly, Meta has clearly revealed its intention to preempt the short-form market after TikTok.

Edits is currently available for free on the App Store and Google Play, and can be accessed by logging in with your Instagram account. Meta plans to continue improving the app by incorporating feedback from creators.
