Apple has unveiled customized Apple logos featuring the logos of each club in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Major League Soccer (MLS). Emeka Opodile, Apple’s head of global sports marketing, said, “We thought of creative ways to commemorate this special season of MLS,” and “We came up with customized logos that capture the identity of each club.”
The new logo designs reflect the colors and symbols of each team. For example, Inter Miami CF’s logo features pink stars and zebra stripes, while LAFC’s logo features wings in black and gold. The New York Red Bulls logo features gold and red.
This project is a unique form that goes beyond the typical collaboration between companies. Usually, when expressing a collaboration, logos are listed using x or straight lines. This logo play between Apple and MLS is challenging in that it combines two logos into one.
Some say that it is unfortunate that only Apple TV is prominently displayed, while MLS is pushed to the back. The Apple logo has a complex apple shape and a narrow surface area, and it is not enough to display the logos of each MLS team inside.
