SanDisk rebranding with a cyberpunk vibe

SanDisk has unveiled a new logo. The brand identity and technological innovation are visualized around the ‘pixel’, the smallest unit of digital data. The pixel is the starting point of data and symbolizes infinite possibilities. Joel Davis, SanDisk’s VP of Creative, emphasized the significance of this design, saying, “Pixels are the foundation of our technology and the core of our progress.”

The logo retains the iconic open 'D' but has been simplified with the letter 'S' reconstructed into pixelated and cone-shaped forms. The 'A' has been made open by omitting horizontal strokes, while the 'I' is designed to resemble the number 1 and the 'N' is designed to resemble the number 2 lying down. The pixelated form stands out with its horizontally cut expression. The pointed ends, thick curves, and missing lines make it look more like a third letter from a cyberpunk genre film than English.

The colors have been given a modern feel while maintaining the brand’s original identity. SanDisk’s signature red color has been adjusted to be warmer and more intense, emphasizing the brand’s energy and enterprising spirit.

For this rebranding, SanDisk worked with advertising agency ELA to create vertical and horizontal versions of the logo that could be applied in a variety of environments. The logo’s formal simplicity and pixel-centric design provide a consistent brand experience from digital platforms to physical products.

SanDisk's new logo is simple yet profound, clearly conveying the brand's direction and vision. Just as a small unit called a pixel can be the starting point for a huge technological advancement, this rebranding is an important milestone that represents the brand's scalability and sustainable growth.
