OpenAI has released its AI video generation model, Sora, to users worldwide at its year-end announcement event, “12 Days of OpenAI.” It is available immediately for OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.
Sora can generate videos up to 20 seconds long and up to 1080p resolution, and users can check the model's video creation process and results. OpenAI explained that Sora can show excellent results in creating landscapes and abstract images. However, it said that it still has limitations in realistically implementing human movement and physics.
Plus subscribers can create up to 50 videos per month, while Pro subscribers can do more with higher resolution and longer durations. OpenAI is working on pricing plans tailored to different user bases and will announce them in early 2025.
To ensure safety, all videos generated by Sora include watermarks and C2PA metadata. OpenAI has also implemented strong blocking measures to prevent the creation of illegal content, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and sexual deepfakes.
Sora is currently not available in Europe or the UK, but OpenAI says it plans to expand its service area gradually. Any user with a ChatGPT account can view videos created by other users through the Sora website. OpenAI hopes the tool will become a new form of creation and entertainment tool.
