Instagram has updated its DM feature. The update includes a new location sharing feature, nicknames, and over 300 new stickers.
New location sharing featureSupports users to share their real-time location with their friends. Live locations can be shared for up to 1 hour and are only available in one-on-one or group chats. Shared locations are not shared outside the specified chat and can be stopped at any time. This feature is turned off by default. When enabled, a notification will appear at the top of the chat saying “You are sharing your location.” Location sharing is currently only available in some countries.
Add nickname featureallows users to customize their own and their friends’ names. They can shorten long usernames or give themselves nicknames that reflect their personal jokes. Nicknames only appear in DM conversations and do not affect other areas of the platform. To set a nickname, tap on your name at the top of the conversation and select the “Nickname” option to change the username. Nicknames can be changed at any time, and the ability to change nicknames can be adjusted in the user’s settings.
300 new stickersAlso added. Consisting of 17 sticker packs, this update is useful for expressing emotions or reacting to certain situations. Users can add stickers shared by friends or stickers they created themselves to their favorites to use repeatedly.
