Onstage update ends: Farewell to a platform that was a big deal for indie music

On Stage concludes its 13-year journey.

On Stage is an indie music platform operated by Naver Cultural Foundation. We have shared live videos every week since November 2010 under the theme of discovering hidden music.

We introduced a variety of music in line with the motto, ‘Hidden music meets the world.’ From Baek Ye-rin and Beenzino to Dear Cloud, Nell, Glenn Check, Lee Seung-yeol, Jo Deok-hwan, Park Seong-yeon, and Inal-chi Lee, they have spread good music across eras and genres.

The last music will be introduced and operation will end on November 16th. Existing live videos can be watched on Naver Vibe, Naver TV, and Onstage YouTube channels.

The sensational video adds not only the pleasure of listening but also the pleasure of watching. When Onstage first appeared, it mainly shared videos such as music videos. With the growth of YouTube, a variety of live music content has emerged, and On Stage is also making various attempts to provide new experiences. Early live performances were filmed intimately and closely, as if watching a performance in a small theater.

In order to express Onstage's identity beyond visualizing the music, we used a cube representing 'stage'. During the period called On Stage 2.0, one-take live videos were often shot in the studio centered on a cube frame. The identity of the channel was strengthened with sculptures and the mood of the song was conveyed with colored lighting.

The visual identity of On Stage changed a year ago to become a stage seen from the sky. The stage is represented by a white square, and squares of various sizes are combined to form the entire stage. We created a minimalist yet strong identity by removing everything else, leaving only the absolutely essential things that express the artist and the music.

It is a pity that the service that introduces a variety of music is coming to an end. I hoped that one day it would grow into a solid brand like Korea's Rolling Stones. Onstage was beautiful, with a clear understanding of one's identity and a visual identity that expressed both meaning and function well. I look forward to coming back someday.
