The first external funding round in May 2012 was $6.5 million from investors including Dave McClure and Jeff Bezos' private investment firm, Bezos Expeditions. Acquired by Adobe Systems in December 2012 for $150 million.

99U is a New York City consulting service and annual conference focused on marketing. The name 99U comes from Thomas Edison's saying that "genius is 1 % inspiration, 99 % sweat". [10] In 2011, 99U won the Webby Award for “Best Cultural Blog”. [14]
