Teenage Engineering has unveiled the 'EP–35,' a portable speaker and amplifier that supports both music listening and instrument playing. It plays music from a smartphone via Bluetooth and allows users to connect a guitar and microphone to play or sing. It also supports line input and USB audio, enabling the connection of multiple audio sources to a single device.
The controls are centered around physical dials. There are eight effects for both the guitar and the microphone. You select an effect by turning the dial and adjust the intensity using a separate dial. The controls for the guitar are distinguished by black, while those for the microphone are white. The controls are operated manually, separated by input.
The storage compartment can hold cables and accessories. A control for adjusting volume and tone by input is also located inside. The internal camp light can be set to turn on automatically when the lid is opened. It also supports a disco mode that lights up in response to music. Tilting the main unit backward displays the remaining battery level using an LED of the same lighting.
It has a 35W output and is equipped with a 4-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter. The built-in battery provides 12 hours of playback at volume 5 according to the manufacturer. When connected to a computer via USB, it can also be used as an audio interface for recording performances. Bluetooth audio can be wirelessly shared among multiple EP-35 units, or two units can be split into left and right channels for stereo playback. The connectivity features necessary for listening, playing, and recording have been integrated into a single portable device.
