Ginga, the movements and rhythms of Brazilian Capoeira

Brazilian designer Matheus Bredov has unveiled a new visual identity for the Capoeira group 'Ginga.' Ginga is a cultural project that operates Capoeira workshops and educational programs. This design portrays Capoeira as a living culture where bodily movement and rhythm, history, and collective memory constantly intersect.

The visual system is composed around bold editorial typography, intense colors, and high-contrast documentary photographs. It features typography and fluid layouts reminiscent of stretching and rotating movements, while photographs capturing training scenes are utilized not merely as records but as graphic elements. Text and images of different sizes collide and intertwine, conveying the unpredictable flow of a Capoeira match.

Identity extends across various touchpoints, including posters, print materials, and digital content. Information requiring precise delivery, such as schedules and locations, is organized according to a grid, while the size and placement of titles and photographs are freely varied. A notable aspect is the interpretation of traditional culture as an experience that continues to evolve within people's bodies and relationships in the present, rather than portraying it as a fixed heritage.
