Meta has quietly launched 'Pocket,' an app that creates mini-games using generative AI.
Pocket is an app that allows users to create short, interactive content using text prompts. Meta calls this a 'gizmo.' A gizmo is an AI-generated experience that responds when the user touches or tilts their phone.
The app has been confirmed to be available on iOS and Android. However, it is not yet available in all regions. Meta Help states, “The Pocket app is not yet available everywhere.” It has also been confirmed that some users in the United States are unable to download the app.
The core of Pocket is not a feed you just watch, but one you create and play with. Users can create small games or toy-like interactions via prompts. You can browse gizmos created by others and even remix some of the content.
This app aligns with Meta's trend of integrating AI into social experiences. It moves beyond existing image generation or chatbots, taking the direction of users directly creating and sharing AI content. Feeds that were previously consumption-centric, like Instagram Reels or TikTok, can expand to become creation and play-centric.
However, the current nature is largely experimental. Meta has not made an official announcement, nor has it disclosed the launch countries or expansion schedule. It is also necessary to verify how easily actual users can create the games they want, and how copyright and security issues will be managed.
