Epilogue has released Flashback, a mobile app for the GB Operator. This app allows you to use the Game Boy Camera, originally released in 1998, on your smartphone. Users can insert a Game Boy Camera cartridge into the GB Operator and connect it to their smartphone to use the phone screen as a viewfinder. It supports iOS, iPadOS, and Android.
Flashback utilizes the Game Boy Camera's signature low-resolution images. Photos are processed at 128×112 pixels, with 2-bit depth and 4 levels of grayscale. You can capture not only photos but also videos within the app. The captured results are saved directly to your smartphone's photo library. No account registration is required. Epilogue explained that photos and videos do not leave the device.
Features have also been expanded. Users can adjust shutter speed, exposure, sharpness, dithering, grain, and more. It also provides 32 color palettes. There is also a Software Mode that can be used without an actual Game Boy Camera or GB Operator. This mode transforms the smartphone camera screen into a Game Boy Camera style.
