Meta has launched Instants on Instagram. Instants is a feature that allows you to send instant photos to close friends or users who follow each other. Photos disappear after being viewed once and cannot be viewed after 24 hours.
The key is 'photos taken now.' Users cannot upload photos from their phone gallery. They must take the photo directly within Instagram. Editing and retouching are also restricted. Recipients can send emoji reactions or reply via DM. According to some descriptions, screen capturing and video recording are also restricted.
Instagram is reinforcing more private and casual sharing experiences, in addition to public exposure-centric experiences like Feed and Reels. Users now have the option to exchange photos within a narrower circle than in Stories. This is a move to re-emphasize a user experience centered on friendships rather than brands or creators.
