Wanted has unveiled its design system, 'Montage'.
Montage is a design system for creating Wanted's product experiences. It includes code, resources, and UX guidelines built on a design language. It is organized so that you can view all the elements necessary to start product design in one place.
The name itself embodies a direction. Wanted explains that, much like the montage technique in film, a more beautiful and intuitive service can be created when individual styles and components are combined. It also carries the meaning of building high-quality products more quickly by leveraging pre-existing assets. Complete open source has also been set as a goal.
The structure is broadly divided into three parts. First, Foundation contains fundamental design elements such as color, typography, grids, and elevation. Components like buttons, chips, cards, tables, toasts, tabs, and text fields are placed on top of this. Additionally, utilities frequently used across the web, iOS, and Android have been organized separately.
The guidance method for designers is also quite practical. It allows users to learn by viewing guide documents and the Figma library together. Purple areas indicate customizable slots, while specification information is distinguished in red. Users can also leave comments on recurring elements or necessary specifications.
This composition demonstrates that Montage is not merely a collection of UI components. It is closer to a workflow designed to build products faster and more consistently within Wanted. It also reveals the objective of enabling designers and developers to collaborate using the same standards and maintain consistent screen quality.
This unveiling is significant in that it marks the beginning of Wanted showcasing its product philosophy to the outside world, going beyond just internal tools. A good design system does not stop at making screens look pretty; it enables teams to work in the same language and helps grow the product more stably. Montage can be seen as an example of this trend.
