IKEA x Tekla, Patterns of Light and Sound

This is a product line that IKEA created in collaboration with Swedish color designer Teklan Evelina Severin, using light and sound as tools of expression in the home.

IKEA, recognizing that appliances have often been perceived as functional and often hidden, has shifted its strategy to treat speakers like furniture. Sara Ottosson, a product developer at IKEA of Sweden, explained that as she gained experience developing high-quality sound, she gained a better understanding of how people prefer to place their speakers.

The centerpiece of this line is the Solskid Bluetooth speaker. IKEA says the Solskid was designed with both form and sound in mind, and that a separate white version is available in addition to the collaboration. Designed by Ola Wihlborg, the speakers come in three different sizes.

The small portable model features orange and an eye-catching pattern. The medium-sized model features a green base with brown-beige diagonal stripes. It is designed to stand or hang on a stand. The large model is designed for wall mounting and has an orange textured finish, and can be combined with a screen.

In terms of functionality, it supports multi-speaker mode, allowing you to connect and play simultaneously, and it also works with compatible IKEA Bluetooth speakers. It also supports Spotify's Spotify tab, allowing you to resume playback from your previous listening point with the press of a button.

Two Cool Glass Lamp Speakers, combining lighting and speakers, are also included. Available in a mix of green, red, brown, and pink, they feature swirling shades reminiscent of soft-serve ice cream. Tecklan explained that the interior is designed to house high-quality sound, while the exterior exudes a warm and welcoming impression.
